Garters come as single pieces or as sets of two. The set exists for the tradition: one garter is tossed to the single guests at the reception, and the second is kept as a keepsake. If you aren't planning a garter toss, a single garter is all you need.

Why Do Wedding Garters Come in a Set of Two?

Because one is tossed and one is kept. In the traditional format, the groom removes the lower garter and tosses it to the single guests during the reception, while the second garter stays on and becomes a keepsake.

If you're planning a garter toss, a set of two is the practical choice — you keep the one you actually wore down the aisle. If you're not doing a toss, a single garter is all you need, and most of our designs are available individually.

What Is the Garter Toss?

The garter toss is the counterpart to the bouquet toss. After the bride throws her bouquet to the single women, the groom removes her garter and throws it to the single women — with the tradition being that whoever catches it is next to marry.

It usually happens partway through the reception, after the formalities and before the dancefloor really opens up. Plenty of Australian couples now skip it entirely, and that's a perfectly ordinary choice. If you're leaving it out, you can still wear a garter purely as a keepsake, or as your something blue.
